La forza della vita è certo determinante in situazione come questa, ma è anche e soprattutto la volontà umana a gestirla bene e a sapere dove fermarsi, soprattutto, cosa un uomo può e non può fare in una situazione come quella. Schnabel non dà mai certezze, ma si supera, realizzando un bellissimo e commovente ritratto di personalità umana lontano dagli stereotipi del caso e perennemente attratto dalla voglia di raccontare storie realiste, il regista, riesce anche a dare una sua interpretazione visiva del mondo: una giostra di colori, in cui c'è chi scende e c'è chi sale.
