Para prepararse su papel en la película, Belén Rueda recibió instrucciones de ver Encuentros en la tercera fase y Los Inocentes, pues Bayona quería revivir las películas de miedo de los 70. La interpretación de Rueda, junto con la excelente banda sonora, técnica cinematográfica y guión, los cuales encajan a la perfección, hacen de El Orfanato un clásico instantáneo. En España, la película se convirtió en la más taquillera de 2007, superando incluso a películas como Piratas del Caribe: En el fin del mundo o Shrek 3. Please read the 2019 news reviews about this moving documentary and why this tragedy and Ellen's tenacity are so relevant today. There was no METOO, no internet and no one ever saw the crime scene photos of the horrible injuries or DNA.. but everyone saw the inaccurate victim shaming.. is gut wrenching to hear Jennifer's mother and sister discuss. Bravo to Ellen Levin who is a hero and you will see did so much for future crime victims. The production itself is intelligent and well done. It corrects the inaccuracies.. allows viewers to know the true Jennifer for the first time in 30 plus years. The inclusion of Chambers former girlfriend and her account finally clears Up the story... and clears the victims name.. If you ever heard about rape shield laws or victim rights bills... they protect what happened to the Levins from happening to others. The great thing about Ellen Levins is she is so real.. a true New Yorker who tells it like it is. This story needed to be told... not just to clear Jennifer's name... but to stop what happened to the Levins from ever happening to another family.
