I was living in a major west coast city, and I was freshly single having dumped my abusive high school boyfriend, so I was trying to learn how to date outside of the security of my school's social setting. (I was 19, so don't worry, I wasn't doing this as a minor. I graduated late after a few issues with school systems in different states requiring me to repeat two separate years of school because those states had different requirements. ) I joined a dating app to see if I could sort of passively look for a potential partner when I wasn't working or doing classes at my community college, and very quickly developed a hearty profile that I believed was sure to weed out anyone that I wouldn't want to be involved with.
