Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2019 Verified Purchase This is an excellent film for 3/4 of the way into it -truthful to the human experience and superbly acted- but then it turns into a cheesy horror flick in Act 3 because they made the female character out to be a psychopath. It wasn't originally written this way and Glenn Close didn't like the ending they switched it to. I agree with her; the original ending would have been more true to her character and more true of affairs that go awry. The scenes are written to lead up to the original ending -her talking about her father, him finding info about her father, them listening and talking about Madame Butterfly. When you change the ending but don't change the scenes that lead up to it, that's lazy writing. We're still entertained, but it no longer fits. Madame Butterfly kills herself so it would have appropriate to have her kill herself.
