This is a tightly scripted movie that had me hooked after the first few minutes and features some terrific performances which should have been given some Oscar recognition from Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis, Jason Clarke is also good in a small supporting role but the movie belongs to its young star Lianna Liberato who is incredible as the young rape victim who goes through a full range of emotions. This was something of a passion project for director David Schwimmer and he's delivered a honest and powerful film that is well worth tracking down. Powerfully acted, tightly scripted, and directed with skill and precision by David Schwimmer, Trust is a drama that deals with its subject matter with a surprising amount of maturity as well as respect and faithfulness towards the intelligence of its audience. ¨The only thing we can do is be there for each other when we do fall down to pick each other up. ¨ On the surface Trust may seem like a movie you'd find in the Lifetime channel, but director David Schwimmer manages to shy away from some of the familiar tropes in the genre and thanks to some strong performances from Clive Owen and Liana Liberato the film ended up being an above average family drama/thriller.
What could have been a sappy after-school-special PSA about the dangers of meeting strangers via the internet was elevated by the performances of Clive Owen, Catherine Keener, Viola Davis, and Liana Liberato. What I thought was going to be a goofy/cringy internet thriller directed by David Schwimmer surprised me. I was also concerned that a film about rape & child grooming written by two adult men wouldn't be able to explore the nasty misconceptions and grief associated with sexual assault, but they accomplished this with attentive care. I guess I'm… If ShE sTiLl TyP3s LyK dIs, She's too young for you bro... This movie is just awful. I don't mean that it's poorly made, but that it's a dreadful thing to watch. Personally, I think it's scarier than most horror movies of today. It's hard to put into words. Acting is great, story's engaging, and this is just a really sad movie. This is the kind of film that all parents with kids in high school should be made to watch and even though there are some disturbing scene's the director deals with the sensitive subject matter well.

However, it is post-rape that the film really takes off and goes in some interesting directions. Firstly, the girl doesn't feel as if she has been raped and that she still loves the man who took advantage of… Uneasy! This film made me feel that way several times with it's portrayal of a sexual predator. It's one of those films where it's almost too real because we know that the situation that plays out in this film happens far to often in real life and it's pretty unsettling. I won't get into the plot for the sake of those who haven't seen it, but I will say that I thought of the TV show To Catch a Predator several times while watching this. If you have kids (especially young girls) it well definitely open your eyes, and make you think twice about what your kids are doing online. I have two boys a 2yr old and a 4… The one thing I've always appreciated about actors in the director's chair is their willingness to give the actors in their film the room they need to turn out solid performances.
Literally this should have been like a 20 minute short film framed around the counseling sessions between Viola Davis (the best and most believable performance in this hot mess) and survivor Annie (Liana Liberato, also better than everyone else in this beyond… haunting, dark, gritty, real. liana liberato really did that i don't know why this movie has so many bad ratings, it's honestly one of the best movies i've ever seen. Really raw and powerful, and holds nothing back to show what rape and grooming underage kids really looks like and how much it fucks the victim up. The only thing i wish happened in the film that didn't is that they caught the sicko, but sadly most of the time the victim never gets justice and the criminal gets away with it. I spent pretty much all of 2017 in a psychiatric hospital and almost every girl there was a victim of sexual assault. I saw what it had done to them and how one disgusting pedophile had ruined their life. This film brings awareness to the topic in a really smart way.
